The 2024 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix is set to be a groundbreaking event, not only for the thrilling on-track action but also for its significant strides in sustainability. PS Energy, a leading fuel distributor, has been chosen as the official supplier of renewable diesel for the generators that will power the entire event. This marks a major step forward in Formula 1’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices in race events.
The Singapore Grand Prix is renowned for its electrifying night race, where the streets of Marina Bay are transformed into a dazzling circuit under the glow of thousands of lights. Behind the scenes, powering this spectacle requires a reliable and efficient energy source. The generators powered by PS Energy’s renewable diesel will provide electricity for the race circuit, entertainment stage, F&B stalls, hospitality areas, and other critical infrastructure.
Renewable diesel is produced from renewable components like plants or natural by-products like animal fats or tallows, and it is chemically identical to petroleum diesel, allowing it to be used in existing diesel engines without modification. By utilizing renewable diesel, the Singapore Grand Prix will benefit from a fuel that not only delivers high performance but also contributes to cleaner air and a lower carbon footprint.
Formula 1 has set ambitious goals to become a net-zero carbon sport by 2030, and the use of renewable diesel at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix represents a key milestone in this journey. By replacing conventional diesel with renewable diesel in the generators that power everything from the paddock to the grandstands, PS Energy is helping Formula 1 take a significant step towards achieving its sustainability targets.
“PS Energy is proud to partner with Formula 1 to provide renewable diesel for the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix,” said Sean Chua, Managing Director, PS Energy Group. “This collaboration demonstrates our shared commitment to sustainability and showcases how renewable fuels can play a critical role in reducing the environmental impact of major global events.”
Beyond supplying sustainable fuel, PS Energy is dedicated to ensuring the flawless execution of the F1 night race. Leveraging its advanced digital platform and the latest fuel monitoring technology, PS Energy guarantees that refueling operations are efficient and reliable. The company will employ Kingspan’s Watchman Radar, an NB-IoT-based device, to monitor fuel requirements in real time across multiple refueling sites. This device is integrated with Harlequin Fuel Stations—smart, double-bunded tanks—that supply fuel to the F1 generators, ensuring uninterrupted power throughout the event.
As the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix approaches, the collaboration between the Singapore Grand Prix and PS Energy highlights a new era in motorsports—one where sustainability and performance go hand in hand. By powering the event with renewable diesel, the company is not only supporting the spectacle of F1 but also contributing to a legacy of environmental stewardship that will resonate long after the checkered flag falls.
